New Year, New Job!

2016 brought great news for Fir Tree Community Association. We received confirmation that we had been successful in raising the funds required to employ a youth worker for 3 years! The Henry Smith Foundation and Hafod Housing Association have been kind enough to give us this much needed grant. The youth worker will work alongside our volunteers to plan and deliver a vibrant, exciting programme of events, activities and services. Artwork Unveiled!

We were incredibly proud to unveil our stunning piece of Art in our Café yesterday. A series of drawings by the children of Fir Tree Drive has been brought to life by the very talented Jane Hubbard. Funding from Children in Need meant the children were able to create drawings and video's to represent what their community means to them and also the history and journey of the local people. This resulted in this lovely depiction of community life based on real people within their community and some accompanying videos which can be viewed in our gallery. Fire at Fir Tree?

Half Term Activities Quakers Yard - Great fun was had by all this February half term when the local fire service visited #firtreecentre. The children had a great time trying out the siren's and talking to the firemen about their job, the mums seemed to enjoy themselves too! Our amazing new building was officially opened yesterday by H.M Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan Mrs Kate Thomas CVO,CSTJ,JP It would be easy to feel overawed in the presence of one of the Queen's representative but this incredible lady was warm, welcoming and very complimentary about our building. £9,000 funding from Children in Need

This summer with funding of over £9,000 from Children in Need we commissioned Valley and Vale Community Arts to work with our children, young people and their families. The project has focussed on creating a logo/brand for the new Youth Zone along with two short films about the development of the Community Association and our new community Building.  Click here to see the clips.Read more …
